Ask For Guidance, Then Be Still Enough To Listen For It
Updated: Jul 2
Most of us are constantly on the look out for something new, stimulating or worthwhile. What we don't always look for, but is so important is stillness. When the movement suddenly stops and forces you to quiet the mind, what do you do? I suggest appreciating the quiet moments, and to listen carefully and with intention. You may end up finding something unexpected, unique and even a tool in your wheelhouse that you would have never found otherwise. I lived for a brief time in New York and was able and willing to stumble upon a much bigger part of who I am today. This would not have happened if I didn't appreciate the time spent with myself. Discovering a new city is so exciting, but it also might force you to have to find the energy to do most of that discovery on your own. This is the perfect way to appreciate your own company, but also to uncover ideas and unleash curiosity.
When I needed to be intellectually stimulated, I went to a museum or attended a panel discussion at one of the many Universities. When I needed to laugh, I sought out Improv shows. When I needed the stillness, I found Maha Rose. Then I found a new sense of being. Spiritual awareness gives us time and asks for stillness in order to appreciate how it can help guide us with healing, inspiration, creativity, and transformation. For anyone in need of discovering a sense of purpose, just ask for it. If you trust and give yourself the moment to embrace, you will get it. As I look at this current time and think about how many different forms of energy are exploding out into the Universe, I can't help but think that it is our time to do something with peaceful and positive energy. We are given this moment of stillness that might never come again. Hold that space in order to soothe yourself and set aside expectations of what you had for this year. Take this time to reflect on what is, so that you can see what really matters and what is of value to you. A place like Maha Rose, located in Brooklyn offers holistic healing sessions, workshops, and trainings to nourish the body, mind, and spirit. Their shop carries crystals, books, jewelry and tools for healing and beauty. "People accept now that it’s all real—energy is real and we can learn tools to work with it, shape it, clean it, comb it out, make it better, and feel good. Really, really good. I think it’s also a wonderful time to be alive, but it’s important to have practices to help us to ground and stay clear and happy. Intense times call for serious magic. Maha Rose offers tools, trainings, and community to keep us uplifted and bright." Read more on their business here.
If you need to start slow, consider reading into it. I look at shopping for spiritual guidance books the same way I shop for crystals. I walk into a book store and whatever I was meant to pick up I will. That is what happened when I discovered Ekhart Tolle and his book, The Power of Now. It was quite a few years ago, but it was at the exact moment I needed it. It took me awhile to pick up his other book called, Awakening To Your Life's Purpose, which encourages you to live in the present moment and create happiness. A few of my other favorites are Book of Secrets and Reinventing The Body, Resurrecting The Soul by Deepak Chopra, Outrageous Openness by Tosha Silver, Siddhartha by Herman Hesse, Walk Like a Buddha by Lodro Rinzler and The Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo. These reads are not only good for the spiritual soul, but they open the possibility of how and when to stay open, look deeply inward or simply put the power of your mind to work in everyday life in order to improve it.
